IT Support Technician

The City of West Bend is accepting applications for a full-time IT Support Technician. The IT Support Technician is responsible for purchasing, installing, and maintaining user PCs, training and installing software, hardware support for office equipment, and general server support.
The person in this position:
installs and maintains desktop software, critical security updates, and patches on workstations and ensures network virus and spyware definitions are up to date;
rotates and initializes backup devices for backups; assists in testing backup plans and procedures for disaster recovery situations; installs and removes backup clients and restores files as requested;
provides help desk support for the organization, serves as the primary initial point person for technology problems, and responds promptly to service requests; provides technical assistance to all departments in the procurement, installation, and operation of computer equipment suitable for their needs;
monitors server room for equipment failures and works with vendors to correct the hardware malfunction;
maintains the equipment inventory of computer equipment, desktop software inventory, and licenses, & system documentation
disposes of, or repurposes old hardware as required, using best practices to sanitize equipment and approved e-waste vendors;
identifies training opportunities for end users on hardware and software;
general maintenance of the VOIP telephone system, including rebooting equipment, physical phone installs, setting up and modifying extensions and voicemail support;
provides feedback on problematic trends and patterns in technical support to the IT Director;
assists in support of the PC/server environment, including tablets & smartphone devices; responds to employee requests for support of the phone and voice mail systems;
assists in the collection of digital evidence from surveillance videos, cellphones, computers, and other similar technical mediums;
conducts small group and one-on-one training as necessary to allow employees to utilize their applications effectively.
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
Associate's Degree in Information Technology or related field and/or two to five years working in an end-user support role of IT operations. Must be able to pass a State of Wisconsin background check and have fingerprints/photographs/ personal information on file with the appropriate government system. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office required. Experience supporting Tyler Munis, phone/voicemail systems, and SQL is desirable.
