DESCRIPTION
BENEFITS
Primary Function
The EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic is responsible for:
The performance of emergency care as outlined under the Emergency Services Provider License of the Menomonee Falls Fire Department and its medical control facility.
Assisting in the maintenance and repair of Department facilities and equipment.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Perform emergency medical care duties within the scope of their license. (EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic)
Have a thorough knowledge of and comply with all Department SOG, policies and procedures, SO, Village policies, and supervisor's directions and orders.
Be proficient in the use and maintenance of all tools, equipment, emergency medical supplies and vehicles used by the department.
Perform cleaning and maintenance of Department facilities and equipment.
Ensure all necessary reports and paperwork is completed in a correct and timely manner.
Comply with the requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
In the absence of an officer or more senior employee, serve as a crew leader and supervise junior personnel in the performance of their duties both during non-emergency activities and utilizing the incident command system during emergency incidents.
Participate in Department trainings, complete all mandatory trainings, and attend outside classes to enhance skills.
Drive Department apparatus (mini pumper, vans, cars, ambulances, pickup truck, and tow trailers).
Maintain effective communications with all levels of the Department.
Order supplies and maintain accurate inventories.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
At time of hire
Be at least 18 years of age
Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
Hold a valid Wisconsin driver’s license
Be licensed as a State of Wisconsin EMT
Additional State of Wisconsin AEMT or Paramedic license is preferred.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The EMT must be able to perform these tasks independently.
Stamina – climb stairs with equipment up multiple flights.
Dynamic flexibility – perform CPR/chest compressions.
Static strength – lift/carry victim/patient.
Explosive strength – run up stairs with equipment.
Dynamic strength – climb ladders/stairs in full protective clothing (turnout) with equipment, climb aerial ladder.
Trunk strength – perform CPR, lift victim.
Speed limb movement – perform CPR, operate/drive ambulances.
Gross body coordination – climb/descend with victim.
Gross body equilibrium – carry patient down stairs.
Arm-hand steadiness – take BP/pulse, start an intravenous line, perform CPR, apply traction to limb/neck of victim.
Manual dexterity – perform CPR, bandage patient, use bag-valve ventilator, tie knots.
Finger dexterity – maintain/open airway, bandage patient, remove object from patient airway with Magill Forceps, tie knots, perform infant CPR.
Near vision – patient assessment, read manuals.
Far vision – drive to an emergency, see addresses.
Visual color discrimination – assess patient.
Hearing – hear BP.
Mobility – get on/off equipment.
Effort – climb stairs/ladder.

COMPENSATION
Base pay is based on EMT license level.
Premiums are added to the base pay as follows:
0.25 FTE Rotation
Additional $0.50/hour
0.5 FTE Rotation
Additional $1.00/hour
Day Shift (0700-1900 CST)
Additional $2.00/hour
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS
Outside workplace environment that is confined.
Exposure to extreme cold, hot and normal temperatures.
Contact with water and liquids.
Exposure to loud noise with a minimum of 90 decibels and vibrations from tools, equipment, machinery, etc.
Exposure to hazardous conditions such as: mechanical / electrical, chemical, burns, explosives, heights, physical injury, and fast-moving vehicles.
Exposure to atmospheric conditions such as: fumes, gases, noxious odors, dust, poor ventilation.
Exposure to blood borne pathogens: blood on self and clothing from emergency medical service (EMS) related calls.
EQUIPMENT USED
Calculator, copy machine, computer, fax machine, telephone, two-way radio.
Power tools, hand tools, chain saws, shovels, brooms, ladders, exhaust fans, hose and nozzles, and meters/detection equipment.
Emergency medical equipment on the ambulance, ambulance cot, stair chair, oxygen, and IV supplies.
Car, mini pumper, pickup truck, van, ambulance, lawn mower, and snow blower.
Hearing and eye protection, firefighting personal protective clothing, and canister/filter breathing mask.
Other equipment as required.
