The Mission Statement of the New Berlin Police Department is to protect the lives and property of the people we serve and prevent crime through partnership with the community. The success of this mission, in part, can be measured by New Berlin regularly being in the upper percentile of “Safest City” rankings both in Wisconsin and nationwide, according to various publications that analyze data from National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) and other sources.
We would not be successful in this on-going mission without the collaboration with the many residents, businesses and community groups who have supported our community programs. This support has provided the opportunity to reach thousands of young people, families, employees, and senior citizens through our outreach efforts. This outreach includes youth diversion programs such as Midnight Basketball & Volleyball, DARE, Senior Citizen Safety Awareness and Scam Prevention Seminars, Active Assailant Training for Businesses, Churches & Schools, Citizens’ Police Academy Program, Safety Saturday, Youth Safety Programs, Business Safety Events, and many more.
We know through experience that developing and maintaining this outreach effort is what separates our Police Department from others in this area, leading to a lower level of criminal activity in our city in comparison to some surrounding communities of comparable size. It undeniably takes a community, which is engaged and aware, to accomplish our mission. This is reflected in the number of calls our department receives from the proactive citizenry regarding suspicious and/or potential criminal activity.
